The Love of God
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have
everlasting life.
Are you a mother, a father, a grandmother, a grandfather, an aunt or uncle ... have you
ever felt the overwhelming love and wonder of holding a child that
is completely dependent upon you? Can you imagine this child
- bring a visual impression to your mind of your child whether they exist in the past, current or future. Can
you, now, visualize the child as being your
only child ... the only child you would ever have - or at least certainly your
favorite? Do you have that emotion firmly fixed in your heart
and mind? Take a moment and fix your mind upon your beautiful child...
Now, picture the person for whom you would sacrifice your beautiful child ...
Drawing a blank? Me too! God, however, formed a picture of you when that topic arose. You! God loves you so much that He gave His only Son as a sacrifice ... and here is the kicker ... so you would have a choice to believe in Him! God loves you so much that He sacrificed His child, His only Son and then allowed you to choose whether you want to believe Him or not!! Why? The Bible says it is because He loved the world ... Jesus gives us a clue for a more complete understanding of the relationship He wants with you. Matthew 22:37-38 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment.
Could it be that God has done everything because He could see
forward into time (as He exists outside the restriction of time) and He could feel
the love a believer has for Him during those moments when we
take the time (as we are locked into time) to praise Him and
glorify Him for all that He has done or to cry out to Him with
the despair of a child in need. Could it be our love -
unforced and completely inspired - that motivates Him. Why
else would Our God, who was, is and always will be Complete as
All knowing, All powerful and Ever present, do everything up to
and including sending His Son to die for us. The
answer, according to John 3:16, is love. The next question
is how you respond to that love ...
Can you feel the love of God?
Do you believe God and what His Son did for you? If you do ... make sure you tell Him about it. Romans 10:9-10 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. (emphasis added) |
